If you do not have an IRC client (such as mIRC) installed on your computer,
you may use this Java version on your internet browser itself. To use
the Java IRC client, select the client in the drop-down menu and click
"GO" if a new chat window does not open. In the new window,
a Security Warning will pop up, click "Yes" to install and run
the client or the client would not work.
Below is a detailed description of the clients available:
Simple Client - plain and simple layout, no
font and style selections, no graphical smileys
Normal Client - ordinary layout, no font and
style selections but includes graphical smileys
Heavy Client - Pennchant background in channels,
font and style selections, timestamp, graphical smileys
If the Java client does not work, be sure that Java is enabled, supported
and installed on your computer. If you do not have Java installed, click
the icon below to get the Java software.
Alternatively, install mIRC (click icon above) or some other IRC client
on your computer, connect to any Austnet server and join #Penny.
Troubleshooting:
It is recommended that Microsoft Virtual Machine be
used.
- To enable JAVA on Microsoft Internet Explorer with Microsoft
VM, select Tools >> Internet Options >> Advanced, scroll
down the list until Microsoft VM is visible. Ensure that the
option "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled (requires
restart)" is checked. Click OK and restart your computer.
- To enable JAVA on Microsoft Internet Explorer with Sun
Java Virtual Machine, select Tools >> Internet Options >>
Advanced, scroll down the list until Java (Sun) is visible.
Ensure that the option there is checked and restart your computer if
necessary.
- Only the Java IRC client allows viewing and
inputting of chinese characters. *If you are using mIRC or a client
which does not have unicode support, you would see numbers in place
of the chinese characters.
- Please ensure your chinese software is activated prior to launching
the client. XP users may experience problems inputting chinese characters
using the proprietary language input bar. Users are advised to use a
stand-alone third-party software.
